8” Skinning knife
Step back in time with this one of kind small skinning knife. Based off examples of original pieces, This would’ve made a great bag knife for a mountain man traveling west in search for beaver or even a belt knife for a cowboy pushing cattle to market.
All of my knives made are aged using various different kinds of techniques for both knife and sheath. My goal I shoot for each and every time is for it to look like you found them laying in a barn forgotten, or an heirloom piece handed down through generations.
About the knife:
The blade is forged, and finished the exact same way they have been made for centuries. The steel is 1095 high carbon steel that produces a very sharp blade. Every blade that is made in my shop is hand filed the only time it touches a grinder is for sharpening. This knife has some file marks left in to show it’s truly handmade. The blade also has a rust patina to help prevent it from further rust to ensure you have a great tool to use for not only your lifetime but your children’s too.
The handle is made from an Iowa whitetail shed that I found a few years back. It was shaped perfect for a handle it just need some material taken off for a comfortable feel. On the bottom is had some chew marks from a squirrel more than likely. Just like the blade this is aged to give it a better look and more color that your typical white shed. It also has a brass pin holding the handle on.
The bolster is made from pewter which was poured hot and filed smooth.
The sheath is made from thick saddle skirting to ensure it never wears out for you. Just like the knife it is aged to look old making it a great set. It’s all hand stitched and burnished. It’s made to be worn on the back of your belt and can be worn both left and right handed.
Overall length of the knife is 8”
This knife and sheath are great for those who do reenactments and rendezvous, or those looking for a usable tool for everyday. It’s great for cutting bales of hay open and even gutting out the buck you shot. This knife is ready to put to use right out of the box just not the sheath is fairly stiff but after wearing it for a while it’ll start to loosen up.
This knife is completely Hand Forged, Hand Filed, Handmade.
